Dennis Newman

Executive Vice President, Strategy & Planning

Dennis Newman is Executive Vice President, Strategy & Planning. He leads the long-range Planning function, including strategic, network, fleet, infrastructure and sustainability planning, as well as the Commercial Services, Infrastructure Access and Investment, Network Development, Host Railroads and Real Estate & Commercial Development functions. He is a member of the Northeast Corridor Commission and serves on the board of directors of the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation.

Dennis joined Amtrak in December 2017 as Vice President, Schedule & Consist Planning, refining train schedules and capacity deployment to improve ridership, revenue and the financial and operating performance of Amtrak’s routes.

His experience includes 17 years in the airline industry, at Northwest Airlines and Delta Airlines. At Northwest, Dennis held roles of increasing responsibility in network planning and scheduling, marketing coordination, and financial planning and analysis, ultimately serving as VP, North America Network Planning. After Northwest merged with Delta, he served as VP, International Network Planning, for Delta. Areas of expertise include strategic planning, network development, demand forecasting and profitability analysis.

Immediately prior to joining Amtrak, Dennis worked in the telecommunications industry at DISH Network, serving as VP, In-Home Services and then as VP, Sales. He began his career as an information systems development consultant.

Dennis graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
