Passengers traveling on trains 421 and 422 to and from points between Chicago and Los Angeles will experience a layover in San Antonio, TX, ranging from 2 to 5 hours in order to accommodate train coupling operations. Passengers are welcome to remain onboard during this layover or may detrain if they wish. An innovative partnership program between the National Park Service and Amtrak, the Trails & Rails program provides Amtrak passengers with educational opportunities to foster an appreciation of a selected region's natural and cultural heritage and renews the long tradition of associating railroads with National Parks.
As part of the Trails & Rails program, National Park service guides from the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park are onboard the Texas Eagle between San Antonio and Fort Worth.
