Ready for a real adventure? Let Amtrak take you deep in the heart of Texas. Hop aboard the Texas Eagle, traveling between Chicago and San Antonio, through major cities from Austin to Dallas. Connecting service between San Antonio and Los Angeles is available via the Sunset Limited. Wind through the Land of Lincoln, across the Mississippi River, and through the Ozarks to Little Rock and the piney woods of East Texas. Onward to colorful, cosmopolitan Dallas, through Austin (home of the University of Texas), and finally to San Antonio, where the legend of the Alamo and the Riverwalk attract people from all over the world.

Go big in the Big D. Ride 470 feet up for 360 degree views at the Reunion Tower GeO-Deck or check out the 49 bronze longhorn cattle in Pioneer Plaza. Walk through the World Aquarium’s 20,000 gallon tunnel exhibit and visit more than 2,000 animals at the Dallas Zoo. Pause to revisit history and national heartache at the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza.

Kick up your heels to the music that moves you in more than 250 live venues. Tour the halls and rotunda of the Sunset Red granite state capitol. Go batty for fare that ranges from hillbilly to haute cuisine. Then head for the hills to soak up the wildflowers of Hill Country and floating fun on the Guadalupe River.

San Antonio, Texas

Enjoy a fiesta of vibrant colors, aromas and music on the Riverwalk. Tour five Spanish Missions, including the infamous Alamo, that have been named UNESCO sites. Laugh with the dolphins at Sea World, ride up to the observation deck of the Tower of the Americas and cool down in the spray of fountains in HemisFair Park.
