Executive Vice President, Digital Technology & Innovation

Christian Zacariassen is Executive Vice President (EVP), Digital Technology & Innovation, serving in this role since January 2022. Technology is integral to all Amtrak functions, from operating trains to building new infrastructure and enhancing the customer experience. Christian leads a broad-based team with the capacity to identify, research, incubate and develop new and transformative technologies and processes to digitize Amtrak operations, helping the company improve operational efficiency, safety, reliability, resiliency and performance.

Functions within the Digital Technology & Innovation organization include “Corporate & Operations Technologies”, “Information Security”, “Innovation & Research, Insights, and Strategy”, “Customer and Revenue Systems”, “Enterprise Technology Operations” and “IT Business Services”.

Since August 2018, Christian had served as EVP and Chief Information Officer (CIO), and was previously appointed Vice President (VP) and CIO in October 2017. As EVP and CIO, Christian oversaw business systems, strategy, technology investment portfolio governance, systems development, infrastructure, IT operations and information security. Christian and his team worked to increase efficiencies, generate revenue and improve the customer and employee experience by delivering IT solutions that modernized and simplified Amtrak’s digital technology and data analytics.

Christian joined Amtrak in 2013 as Chief, Infrastructure Services and later was promoted to Associate VP of Product, Portfolio & Customer Management. Prior to his time at Amtrak, Christian held the position of VP, Information Technology (Head of Global IT Infrastructure) for Life Technologies. He also served as an officer in the Norwegian Army.

Christian graduated from the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Master of Business Administration.
