Come Aboard and Put the Adventure Back Into Your Travels

More and more seniors are taking the train to see the country and it's easy to see why. Airfares are high and airports are crowded. Driving a long distance can be stressful and costly and taking a bus just isn't all that appealing. Traveling by train is easy, comfortable and safe. Many stations are located in or near downtown for convenient heart-of-the-city arrivals and departures. And since Amtrak travelers 62 years of age and over are eligible to receive a 15% discount on most trains, it becomes an affordable alternative.

Enjoy Many Onboard Amenities

Seniors Travel by Train In addition to the wide seats and extra legroom, long distance train travel offers seniors a variety of accommodations and amenities. Feel free to sit back and relax, take a nap, or just enjoy the company of a good book. If you prefer, you can walk around and strike up a conversation with a fellow traveler or take in the scenery from the Sightseer Lounge.

Plus, most overnight trains feature Dining cars that serve three meals a day, with full menus, including vegetarian selections. Looking for something smaller? Grab a bite in the Café car.

You can reserve a room in the Sleeping car for a restful night's sleep. And special accommodations for passengers with disabilities, mobility impaired passengers and medication storage are also available.

Routes that Will Satisfy Your Wanderlust

Seniors Travel by Train While the convenience and amenities are definitely a plus, there's also the romance. Get swept away while on iconic routes like the California Zephyr, which journeys from the verdant Midwest to the Rocky Mountains and arrives at San Francisco Bay.

There's also the Southwest Chief that travels on the historic Santa Fe railroad, alongside the famous Route 66.

Or, the Coast Starlight — one of the most majestic journeys along the Pacific coast between Los Angeles and Seattle, featuring awe-inspiring views of the Pacific Ocean and the snow-covered peaks of the Cascade Mountains.

Whether you are visiting big cities, small towns or places you could only see aboard the train, a rail adventure is one of the best ways for you to see the country.
