    • The morning train (#1171) departs Raleigh Union Station (RGH) at 7:50 a.m. ET and arrives at Rockingham Speedway (RKH) at 9:56 a.m. ET. 
    • The evening train departs Rockingham Speedway at 6:35 p.m. ET and arrives in Raleigh at 8:41 p.m. ET.

  • When will the Rockingham Special operate?

    The Rockingham Special offers a single round trip between Raleigh Union Station (RGH) and the Rockingham Speedway (RKH) on Saturday, April 4. It also offers service from Cary (CYN) and Southern Pines (SOP).
    The train departs Raleigh (RGH) at 7:50 a.m. and arrives at Rockingham Speedway at 9:56 a.m. The return trip departs the racetrack at 6:35 p.m. and arrives at Raleigh at approximately 8:41 p.m.
    Passengers will access the Speedway through Gate E. Staff will direct passengers across North Highway 1 in both directions.

  • How do I book a trip?

    Visit the fare finder on this page or on the Amtrak app. Then, select either a one-way or round-trip ticket. Next, select your origin and destination (either RGH, CYN or SOP to RKH). Finally, select April 4, 2026, as the travel date. Fares and options to book will be available on the next screen.

  • Do you offer group reservations?

    Customers in small groups of up to eight can purchase tickets at the fare finder on this page and the Amtrak app. Customers in groups of 9 - 14 can call 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245) to make a reservation. Groups of 15 or more — including requests for exclusive car occupancy — should make a group travel request and an Amtrak representative will contact you. For more information about group travel, call 1-800-USA-1GRP (1-800-872-1477) Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. ET.

  • Are there any discounts available on fares?

    No discounts will be applicable on these fares (Seniors, RPA, Military, Child or other).

  • How can I locate the stations?

    Visit the station detail pages for Raleigh (RGH), Cary (CNY) or Southern Pines (SOP) and the Rockingham Raceway express stop at https://www.amtrak.com/stations/rkh for more information.

  • What can I bring onboard?

    Rockingham Special customers can bring two carry-on items and one personal item. Alcoholic beverages cannot be brought on board the train. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks can be purchased in the Cafe.

  • Can I purchase food and drinks onboard?

    During your trip, be sure to visit the Cafe car — offering hot and cold food and beverages for purchase. Take a sneak peek at our cafe menu.

  • How early should I arrive?

    We recommend arriving at the station at least 30 minutes prior to departure.

  • Are tickets to the NASCAR event included in my ticket purchase?

    No. Tickets to the NASCAR event are not included in the price of your train ticket.

  • What if I need to change or cancel my train ticket?

  • Is this service available for travelers with a disability?

    Yes. Each departure offers dedicated accessible seating. Raleigh (RGH) is a fully accessible station, Cary (CYN), Southern Pines (SOP) and Rockingham (RKH) offer a wheelchair lift.

  • Do I earn Amtrak Guest Rewards points? Can I redeem them to purchase a ticket?

    Amtrak Guest Rewards earn 2 points per dollar spent on the Rockingham Special. Redeeming points for this train is not currently available.
