To meet the needs of customers at Amtrak’s second busiest train station, capacity at the Washington Union Station concourse will double by 2026.

Doubled Capacity and Seamless Boarding for Travelers to the Nation’s Capital

This makes it one of the busiest intercity and commuter rail stations in the country serving Amtrak, MARC, Virginia Railway Express and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) customers.

To address growing demand, the Claytor Concourse, Washington Union Station’s intercity and commuter concourse, will be modernized and reconfigured, doubling its present capacity.

Enhanced customer amenities include:

  • Nearly double the customer space
  • Improved boarding experience 
  • Improved passenger comfort and security
  • Accessibility for customers with disabilities
  • New architectural finishes and more natural light
  • New restrooms

New Metropolitan Lounge

The concourse will include a Metropolitan Lounge (formerly ClubAcela), a premium lounge space providing travelers with a high-quality experience, including:

  • Priority boarding
  • Expanded food and beverage offerings
  • Dedicated customer service agents
  • Private restrooms
  • Complimentary WiFi

Launch Date

The modernized Washington Union Station concourse will open in 2026.
