Take a moment to see all the ways Amtrak can help you bring aboard the items you want and need en route and at your destination. By following these policies, you'll have everything you need to make your trip as enjoyable as possible.

The carry-on and checked baggage policies on Amtrak Thruway Services of the 7000 and 8000 number series are determined by the operating carrier and may vary from those of Amtrak.

Carry-On Items

Each traveler may bring 1 personal and 2 carry-on items. Size/weight limitations apply.

Baggage on the Auto Train

Auto Train does not offer checked baggage service, but you may pack baggage inside your vehicle (you may not access your vehicle in route). Each traveler is allowed two carry-on bags.

Prohibited Items

For the safety and security of our passengers and employees, Amtrak prohibits certain items onboard trains and in checked bags.

Checked Baggage

Each traveler can check up to 4 bags (2 free and 2 at $20 per bag). Size/weight limitations apply.

Special Items

Baggage over normal size restrictions or requiring special handling (baby items, bikes, sporting equipment, firearms, etc.) may be subject to additional packing requirements and service fees.

At-Station Baggage Services

Need help with your bags or somewhere to store while you explore? Temporary storage & baggage assistance is available at most staffed stations.
