Please be advised that Southwest Chief Trains 3 and 4 may encounter delays along the route due to track reconstruction being performed between Lamy and Albuquerque, NM, and in southern Colorado. This work is expected to continue through approximately September 4.

Train 4: Eastbound Delays Albuquerque - Chicago

Eastbound customers may experience delays up to two hours at stations from Albuquerque to Chicago.

Train 3: Westbound Delays Lamy - Los Angeles

Westbound customers may experience delays of up to two and a half hours at stations from Lamy to Los Angeles.

Train Connection Changes

Due to the delays, some guaranteed connections from Trains 3 and 4 to other Amtrak trains are temporarily suspended through Sept. 4. Other connecting trains and alternate routes are available in most cases, or customers may make reservations on a preferred connecting train for the following day. Impacted connections include:

  • Same day connections in Los Angeles from Train 3 to Coast Starlight Train 14. The San Joaquin service provides alternate connections to northern California and the Pacific Northwest.
  • Connections in Kansas City from Train 4 to the Missouri River Runner Train 314. Customers may use Train 316 instead.
  • Connections in Newton, KS, from Train 4 to the Heartland Flyer in Oklahoma via Thruway buses will not be available during this period.
  • Bus connections in Raton, NM, from Train 4 towards Denver will connect at Albuquerque, NM, rather than Raton.

Note that change fees will be waived for customers who need to make changes to their reservation resulting from these connections changes.
