<![CDATA[Amtrak Service Alerts & Passenger Service Notices - West ]]> Weblog Editor 2.0 <![CDATA[California Zephyr Trains 5 and 6 Track Work Affects Service]]> Effective September 16 - 23, 2017 and October 1 - 8, 2017

Due to track work being performed by Union Pacific Railroad, Amtrak California Zephyr, Trains 5 and 6, will operate a detour route between Denver and Salt Lake City, missing the following station stops: Winter Park, CO, Granby, CO, Glenwood Springs, CO Grand Junction, CO, Green River, UT, Helper, UT, and Provo, UT, on the dates indicated below:

Westbound Train 5: Chicago - Emeryville September 15 - 22 and September 30 - October 7
  • Train 5 which originates in Chicago, IL one day prior, will operate a detour route between Denver, and Salt Lake City.
  • Passengers detraining at any of the missed station stops will be provided bus service from Denver to destination.
  • Passengers boarding at any of the missed stops will be provided bus service to Salt Lake City, where you can board the train.
  • Alternate service will not be provided for Winter Park, CO or Granby, CO.
Eastbound Train 6: September 15 - 22 and September 30 October 7
  • Train 6 which originates in Emeryville, CA one day prior, will operate a detour route between Salt Lake City and Denver.
  • Passengers detraining at any of the missed station stops will be provided bus service from Salt Lake City to destination.
  • Passengers boarding at any of the missed stops will be provided bus service to Denver, where you can board the train.
  • Alternate service will not be provided for Winter Park, CO or Granby, CO.

Passengers traveling during these periods should be aware that Trains 5 and 6 will not travel on its normal route through the Rocky Mountains and along the Colorado River. The detour route is less mountainous than the regular route through the Colorado River Canyon. It follows a portion of the historic transcontinental Union Pacific route completed in 1869 that offers views of broad vistas, wildlife and high plains.

<![CDATA[California Zephyr Trains 5 and 6: Temporary Schedule Changes]]> Effective September 4 - 14, 2017 & September 23 - 29, 2017

Due to track work being performed by Union Pacific Railroad, Trains 5 and 6 will operate according to later schedules starting September 4 through September 14 and September 23 through September 29, as described below:

Westbound Train 5: Chicago - Emeryville
  • Chicago to Denver: Train 5 will operate between Chicago and Denver, one hour and 35 minutes later than the normal schedule; departing Chicago at 3:35 pm and arriving at Denver at 8:50 am.
  • Denver to Emeryville: Train 5 will remain in Denver, departing at 12:35 pm, four hours and 30 minutes later than the normal departure time. The train will depart all remaining station according to the later schedule through its arrival at Emeryville at 8:40 pm.

This schedule change affects westbound Train 5 that departs Chicago from September 4 through September 14 and September 23 through September 29, arriving in Emeryville two days later.

Eastbound Train 6: Emeryville - Chicago
  • Emeryville to Grand Junction: Train 6 will depart Emeryville at 10:40 a.m., one hour and 30 minutes later than the normal schedule; and operate according to the later schedule through its arrival at Grand Junction.
  • Grand Junction to Chicago: Train 6 will remain in Grand Junction until departing at 12:30 p.m., two hours and seven minutes later than the normal departure time. The train will depart all remaining station according to the later schedule through its arrival in Chicago at 4:57 p.m.

This schedule change affects eastbound Train 6 that departs Emeryville from September 4 through September 14 and September 23 through September 29, arriving in Chicago two days later.
