Portal North Bridge Infrastructure Work Impacts Northeast Corridor Train Service

Effective February 15 - March 15, 2026

Beginning February 15, Amtrak and NJ Transit will begin an extensive project replacing the 115-year-old Portal Bridge in northern New Jersey with a two-track replacement bridge, Portal North. Schedules along the Northeast Corridor may be impacted during the four-week work period, and times listed on Amtrak.com have been updated to reflect these changes.

Project Benefits

  • Improves reliability and safety, eliminating risk of malfunctioning with a fixed span that does not open or close.
  • Increases train speeds and doubles capacity between Newark and New York.

Schedule Impacts

  • Acela, Northeast Regional and Keystone schedules will be temporarily adjusted during the work period.
