City of Chicago Street Project Update - Chicago Union Station Customer Access
Effective through Spring 2026The Chicago Department of Transportation is replacing the structure under South Canal Street. It has temporarily reduced Union Station access between West Adams Street and West Jackson Boulevard.
Please allow extra time getting in and around the station and expect significant traffic congestion during this project. Plan to arrive at least 45 minutes before your scheduled departure.
Visit the City of Chicago project website for more information.
255 South Clinton Street is the Primary Public Access Point
A mid-block entrance is open on South Clinton Street (see map), between Adams and Jackson and across from West Quincy Street. It is compliant with access standards and leads directly into the station’s Great Hall and Train Concourses. Entrances on the corners of Clinton with Adams and Jackson also continue to lead to the Great Hall and trains.
Taxi Stand and Ride-Share/Loading Zone Locations
Taxis pick up along a newly reopened section of Canal Street (west curb), reachable from the Great Hall by an elevator and grand staircases. A ride-share and loading zone is along Adams Street (south curb), reachable by all three Clinton Street entrances and exits.
Amtrak Connecting Bus Location on Jackson Boulevard, east of Clinton Street
Amtrak-ticketed buses continue to pick-up and drop-off on Jackson Boulevard, opposite of the taxi stand between the station and CTA’s Union Station Transit Center. Pedway access is available at the corner of Jackson Boulevard and Canal Street. Some Greyhound buses also serve this stop.
