Alexandria Station Will No Longer Accept Checked Baggage
Effective April 20, 2026Beginning April 20, 2026, checked baggage service will no longer be available at the Alexandria, VA Station (ALX) due to ongoing station construction.
Customers can still take advantage of Amtrak’s generous carry-on baggage allowances that include 2 carry-on bags up to 22”x28” and 50 pounds, plus a personal item up to 14”x11” and 25 pounds. Additional information can be found here.
Customers who wish to travel with checked baggage are encouraged to depart from nearby Washington Union Station (WAS), where checked baggage service will continue to be offered.
The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) is undertaking a station improvement project to modernize Alexandria Station and enhance the boarding experience for all rail passengers. During this multi-phase construction project, Amtrak customers will be assisted by station agents and guided signage to help ensure safe and efficient boarding
