I'll admit it, I could quite happily spend most of my time travelling by train. Those of us that remain unashamed sentimentalists will never tire of what remains the most romantic and nostalgic form of transport. And compared to the dubious experience of being squeezed into a tiny seat on an aeroplane for hours on end, it's like a little piece of heaven.
My latest rail adventure landed me in Seattle, where, on a lovely spring morning I contemplated two journeys of 22 hours each within a week...
