A Christmas Adventure

A Son's Wonderful Gift

Thinking we would be spending Christmas in Florida; our son and daughter in law called asking how we'd like to come celebrate Christmas with them in New Jersey as their gift to us. Since a trip by air would be two hours and rail would be 19 hours, they naturally thought we'd opt for air. My husband is a volunteer conductor for the Adirondack Scenic Railroad in New York and we had always dreamed of taking a long trip on Amtrak, but because of limited funds, we couldn't fulfill our dream.

We left from Deland, Florida week before Christmas and were welcomed on the platform by our porter, who immediately relieved me of my carry on bags and led us to our Roomette. The room was already made up and he advised us that dinner was still being served in the Dining Car. Talking about surprises — outstanding food on a train — the wait staff was not only helpful and courteous but very professional. We spent a sleepless night because of our excitement — the bunks were extremely comfortable.

Our family, friends couldn't wait to hear about our experience when we returned — we still can't stop gushing about Amtrak and your outstanding service.

We sadly departed from Baltimore, Maryland, the day before New Years Eve and again were met on the platform by a porter. We had the same great experience as our trip to New Jersey — outstanding, professional service — the same outstanding food, even though the train was filled to capacity due to the holiday season and as a result of the blizzard that stalled air travel in the east.

Our family, friends couldn't wait to hear about our experience when we returned — we still can't stop gushing about Amtrak and your outstanding service.

Thank you, Amtrak, not only for your wonderful service; your employees are truly outstanding but for your timeliness. We honestly don't think we'd ever fly again — our next dream is to travel to Denver to visit our daughter and her family, possibly a Christmas gift to ourselves next year.
