Boston, Massachusetts & Luxembourg
When I was 13 years old, I met a boy named Abir at a wedding in New Jersey. I lived in Luxembourg (a tiny country in Western Europe) at the time. We started speaking online, and the following year I visited New Jersey for winter break. I took two airplanes to get there, all alone at 14. We saw each other and, as young as we were, fell in love.
Here I am, more than five years later, still in love with the same boy. He is about to finish college, and I just moved here to start university in Boston, Massachusetts.
I took Amtrak for the first time this fall to see him, in New Jersey, on his 22nd birthday. It was the first birthday of his that I got to be around for in the five years that we have been together. We really got to BE together. I had the time of my life, and at midnight on his birthday he said that it was already the best birthday ever.
