When Traveling

  • Ride Amtrak instead of flying or driving.
  • Take public transportation to your destination.
  • Reuse hotel towels and sheets instead of having them changed every day.
  • Get regular tune-ups to keep your vehicle well-maintained.
  • Carpool to work one or two days a week.
  • Maintain proper air pressure on your vehicle's tires.
  • Enjoy a bike or walking tour.
  • Bring your own toiletries instead of using the prepackaged ones provided by the hotel.
  • Use the hotel shuttle van instead of renting a car.
  • When driving, avoid sudden starts and stops and go the speed limit.
  • When you leave your hotel room, turn off the air conditioning, heat, television, lights and other electronic devices.

At Home

  • Turn off appliances and lights when you leave the room.
  • Don't let the water run while shaving or brushing your teeth.

  • Repair leaky fixtures.
  • Install low-flow showerheads, faucets, and toilets.
  • Add insulation to attics and install weather stripping.

  • Sweep outside instead of using a hose.
  • Install high-efficiency appliances and plumbing fixtures.
  • Plant a tree to help reduce home heating and cooling costs.
