My son Dylan and I went on a trip to North Carolina to see his grandmother and visit some new places we haven't seen on our previous visits. We boarded the train in Tampa and got situated in our room. This was the first time we have taken a ride in the Viewliner and it was a fantastic experience.
Dylan and I settled in quickly because dinner was at 6 pm. We had dinner with a nice lady and her son from California who had been in Tampa on vacation and were taking the train the Raleigh just like us. After dinner we came back to our room and hung out a while until Dylan got tired and I knew it was bedtime soon.
I got Dylan and myself showered for the evening and him into his PJs. Once his teeth were brushed he and his monkey George were off to bed until the next morning. I just relaxed for about an hour listening to the rails buzz under my feet and soon follow Dylan and George.
The next morning we were up early for breakfast. After that it was back to our room for a short while before the train arrived in Raleigh. We had a packed weekend scheduled. We went to Wet N' Wild in Greensboro on Friday, a Durham Bulls baseball on Saturday, and a day at Carolina Beach on Sunday plus we squeezed in a visit to the USS North Carolina in Wilmington. We got back to catch the southbound Silver Star on Sunday night and did much as the same on the way back to Tampa.
All the Amtrak employees that we came in contact with on train 91 and 92 were fantastic. From the Coach Attendants, to the Dining Car staff, to the conductor; they were all fantastic people who went out of their way to make our trip relaxing and entertaining. The food was great, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and everyone wore a smile the entire time from start to finish.
I talk to many people who have never taken the train. I always tell them the positive experience we have when taking Amtrak. Once again it was much as it always is. We will be traveling again soon and you can be assured it will be on the rails.
