Interactive Route Atlas

The Route Atlas is an interactive map to help you explore all the places Amtrak goes. Search by station or route; or plot custom routes to see the various travel options Amtrak offers between any two stations. Then find fares directly from the Route Atlas and buy tickets for the route you have created.

The Route Atlas interface is easy to use. Stations and routes can be searched alphabetically, by state or by region. Each station and route shown on the map link to more information, including stations served, addresses, hours of operation and other details.

A broadband connection is recommended for using the Route Atlas. You will need the free Adobe Flash Player (version 8) installed on your computer to use map. Download the player from Adobe.

Using the Route Atlas

Using the 'Routes Tab'

Use the 'Routes' tab to highlight Amtrak routes on the map. You can search a list of route names by letter, by state or by region.

To get additional information about each route, click on the 'i' icon next to a route name in the left panel or click on the highlighted route on the main map.

Use the 'Stations' tab to highlight Amtrak stations on the map. You can search a list of station names by letter, by state or by region.

Each white square symbol on the map represents an Amtrak station.

Click on the symbol to show the station's name.

Click on the station name to get more information.

Selecting Departure and Arrival Stations

1. Use the 'Custom Routes' tab 'Station List' popup

Click on the 'Station List' link to show a list of Amtrak stations.

2. Use the 'Custom Routes' auto-fill text entry

Click in the 'Departs' or 'Arrives' text box and begin typing a city or station name.

Station names and codes that match your entry will appear as you type.

Click the name of the station from the list to add it to the text box.

3. Use the station icons on the map

Click the green button on a station flag to select that station as the origin of a custom route.

Use the red button to select a station as the destination.

Sending a Request for Custom Route

Once you have selected origin and destination stations by one of the methods above, click on the 'Go' button to send your custom route request.

Viewing the Results

The left panel will display the results of a successful custom route request.

Click the result items in the list to get more details about the selected trip and display the custom route on the map.

Clicking a second result will close the first and display the second.

Roll over the route segments on the map to highlight their route names.

Finding Fares

1. Create a custom route

Select origin and destination stations using one of the methods above, then click on the 'Find Fares' button to display the Fare Finder.

2. Enter trip details

Enter trip details using the pulldown menus, then click on the 'Find Fares' button at the bottom of the Fare Finder.
