Everyone likes choices. When you book your trip through Amtrak.com, you have fare options and the freedom to travel your way. With more booking options, you can choose the best fare type for your travel needs. Plus, you'll be alerted when seat and room inventory is low for the train and fare you're searching, so you'll know when you need to act fast. Here are some helpful tips on getting the optimal fares:
Saver Fares are the lowest available fares and include deeply discounted offers (14-day advance purchase, flash fares, web only). Saver Fares are non-refundable but can be canceled with the ticket value stored as credit in an eVoucher that can be used for future Amtrak travel.
If not canceled before the scheduled departure from the origin ("no show"), the entire amount is forfeited and cannot be applied toward future travel. The Saver Fare is not available on all trains and buses. The number of seats available on each train at the Saver Fare is limited.
Value Fares offer several refund options. Value Fare tickets are fully refundable if canceled more than 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure from the origin but will incur a 10% refund fee if canceled less than 24 hours prior to scheduled departure. Value Fare tickets can be canceled with the ticket value stored as a credit in an eVoucher that can be used for future Amtrak travel.
If not canceled before the scheduled departure from the origin ("no show"), the entire amount is forfeited and cannot be applied toward future travel. The Value Fare is available on all trains and buses. The number of seats available on each train at the Value Fare is limited.
Flexible Fares are 100% refundable without any refund fee. Flexible Fare tickets can be canceled for a full refund of the ticket value or with the ticket value stored as a credit in an eVoucher that can be used for future Amtrak travel. The Flexible Fare is available on most trains and buses. The number of seats available on each train at the Flexible Fare is limited.
Premium Services include all upgraded services such as Acela Express First class, non-Acela Express Business class and sleeping accommodations (rooms). Prices for these upgrades are included in your total fare — all the math is automatically done for you, even when you book multiple passengers. Premium service varies by train. The number of Premium seats and rooms available on each train is limited.
Refund rules and options vary by fare type, type of service purchased and when you request a refund. See the Refund and Exchange Policy for more information.
When booking a passenger discount other than child or senior discounts (such as student, military and AAA) you will need to use the "Buy Tickets" tab at the beginning of your search. Also, any promotion codes will need to be added during the first step of the booking process to apply to your fare.
In addition to displaying all available travel options for the date(s) you've selected, including total itinerary price, departure/arrival times, duration and transfers, we'll also show you the following price adjustments when applicable:
On most Amtrak trains, only the full, undiscounted, unrestricted fare will be available for purchase onboard the train. This is regardless of reservations made or fares previously quoted by ticket agents, Amtrak.com or elsewhere. Higher fares usually apply when purchasing tickets onboard the train. To secure the best available fare, passengers should purchase tickets prior to boarding the train.
